Hello,

I'm looking for the recovery CDs for my ThinkPad A30. I love running the original OS on my machines so these are needed to help me out.

I've been working on computers for most of my life and this is a love of mine working on and restoring these PCs. Is there a location on the site where the discs may be located for download?

Thank You

James

there were T30 recovery cd sets in the same bunch i sent out a year or two ago BUT you must be very careful, there was a defect that would do some damage to the T30's when the recovery was run..
i do not now recall any more than that..

Hi All.

I've got a set of T30 Win2K recovery discs packed away if that's of any use to someone.

Problem is...I've just moved, and they are well and truly packed away, probably in an unmarked packing box...one of about 130 to go through....

Probably be a week or two before I get to them, but if urgent, let me know and I'll move finding them up the priority list.... (along with finding the wayward cat that I keep hearing mewing from somewhere in the pile of boxes  )

Regards.

you can try this set instead: https://archive.org/details/ibm-thinkpa ... tore-discs

looks like that first set was indeed bad.

duckduckgo, google, yahoo..??
i got and sold to john o'banion the very first T30 out the door from IBM.. those early T30's came with a memory issue as well and THAT is about all i can recall now..
at that time i was getting new thinkpads direct from IBM on yellow pricing and when they discovered that all hell broke loose..
IBM hated me then and probably does so even now..
most likely from when i got thinkpads.com domain and they sent me a lawyer letter from their NYC law firm and john responded for me and beat them.. :-)
all this goes back to the mid 1990's..

That's a story I'd like to hear!

I still have all the CDs you mailed me safe in the computer workshop, with their ISO images preserved. And of course, the recovery archive continues to grow. :)

Bill, that was in April 1999 and I still have copies of the letters. :P

I wish that I still had that T30, but I gave it to a student who couldn't afford a laptop when I upgraded. IIRC, I also bought some memory sticks from you for that computer and never experienced the microfracture issue on the outer slot. As it turns out, I now need an XP machine with cardbus slots to write some linear flash cards and with a real serial port for programming some commercial Motorola radio equipment. So, I have a T30 coming from fleabay in a few days and hope that it's in as good shape as the seller claims.

That's why I'm looking for the recovery CDs. I don't recall the recovery CD issue so I will be very careful with whatever version I locate (maybe theterminator93 has a good set of images that he can send).

Addendum: from looking back through my old posts it seems that I did send my T30 to IBM for repair so maybe I experienced the memory slot issue.

what a hoot, that NY lawyer was upset when i published her letter with her signature showing..
you need a what..?
i recently unearthed 2 X300's..
one a gift from (was it david hill?) for sort of helping them set up their support forum.. it has a DEMO tag on it and another similar X300, a T400 i think and 3 T61p's, which worked lat time i turned them on many years ago..
if any of those will help, let me know, otherwise ill get more detail and post them in the marketplace..

I've got two sets for T30, XP and W2K. I'm not sure if both came from the CD stash I got from Bill or not but the date from the XP set indicates I got it in 2018, 3 years before I got the W2K set. I don't have a T30 to test either on, but I don't recall anyone mentioning they had issues with them. I'm sure I've shared them at least once by now. :)

Wow, an X300 from David Hill? Nice find!
