Background: I just finished my frankenpad project that I started about 5 months ago. It took a lot longer than expected, in particular because I had a lot of difficulty with the screen replacement, which turned out to be a bad panel. The completed frankenpad has the HV150UX2-100 LCD panel and a T61 intel graphics motherboard.
I also have another T60p, with a 1600x1200 FlexView panel. Its not nearly as bright as the LED-backlit panel, but it's pretty good overall I think. I also just bought a new T61 nvidia M/B from theboardroom.info, which I was planning to put into this T60p. However I'm having some second thoughts. I've been casually looking at buying a 14.1" SXGA+ T61. I was thinking of buying a T61 with an SXGA+ screen, but I'd get one with a dead nvidia motherboard and put the new nvidia board into it instead of into the T60p. This would let me put my spare Intel graphics T60 board into the T60p, and I thought it would be a fun project to put libreboot on it in order to have a fully-free BIOS (I already have a couple of coreboot laptops, but they still need some proprietary blobs). I could also try to live the 32-bit lifestyle for a little while.
So, my question is, how is the quality on the 14.1" 4:3 SXGA+ T61 displays? Would it be a waste to put a new nvidia board into one of these laptops, when I could put it into a T60 w/ UXGA flexview?

Re: Quality of T61 14.1" SXGA+ vs T60 15" Flexview
Those 14.1" SXGA+ screens are pretty dark, even when new, and also are of the TN variety, which looks rather washed out, unless you sit straight in front of them.
They are also getting very rare.
The IPS-version of the 15" screens, and especially their LED-version, make a huge world of difference.
BTW, putting a T7200/T7400/T7600 CPU in the T60 will let you run 64-bit, but you are still limited to ~3GB RAM.

Re: Quality of T61 14.1" SXGA+ vs T60 15" Flexview
The only 14.1" SXGA+ sceen I encountered was on a T60, and IIRC it was a Samsung panel. The viewing angles are downright atrocious-- if you look at the top half of the screen and try to adjust the angle to make it look decent, once you look down the lower half will already be color-inverted. If you try to make the center decent, both the uppermost and lowermost sections will look sh*tty.
You'll be endlessly adjusting the lid's tilt angle just to see half of the screen.
