need a slim ultrabay for T61

#1 Post by newyorkpaulie » Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:59 am

I need to get an ultrabay that I can plug my sata sdd hard drive into for backing up. I only see very expensive ones online. Can I use the much lower priced ones that are listed for the T400s? Or does anyone know of any reasonably priced T61 ultrabays? Thanks!

Consider getting a USB to SATA HDD adapter such as the following (only $9.99). I have one, and it works well.

Thanks for your tip. I already have one of these. Problem is when using the USB connection it really slows things down.

Unfortunately, no. These are Serial ATA, whereas T61 and older use Parallel ATA connection (even for Serial ATA drives.

I am as surprised as you that there do not seem to be any cheap knockoff Ultrabay caddies for T4x/T6x for sale at the moment. A few years ago there were plenty!

I'm in the same boat. I recently scoured the internet high and low for a cheap ultrabay for my T61p. No luck! Sorry, don't know what to tell you on this. Might be best to simply invest in a larger base drive that you can partition as you see fit (obvious recommendation would be an SSD).

Are any of these suitable or worth risking?

I was thinking about these generic ones, but it looks like the connector on the back is not exactly the same. I am also wary of the fact that while they often advertise compatibility with many different laptop lines, none of them mention Thinkpads...
