1066 mod issue
1066 mod issue
Hello, I've recently performed a quad mod for my T61.
Upon inserting P8500 or QX9300, CPU's are reported correctly in the bios. The problem lies (I believe so) in the ram, I had flashed modules 4-6 but nothing has changed (though flashing module 6 had lead to issues in the bios so I just re-flashed it with original spd).
Did any of you had faced the same issue before and/or knows how to solve it?
PS. Out of curiosity: what's the reason all 1066 CPU's are posted as having 1.90 ghz in the bios?

Re: 1066 mod issue
The reason why the 1066 cpus are posted as different from their factory speeds is because of the fact that the T61 has a 800mhz fsb so the cpu will be downclocked. So without modification, the QX9300 will be downclocked to 1.9GHz(2.53 divided by 1066 then multiply by 800) and I'm not sure what you mean by the P8500...do you mean the P8600? then it would be 1.8GHz. But in order to fix this, you will need to modify the clock generator or do the "wifi OC" see this(it's in German just translate it) or this for more information on the wifi OC.
If they refer to 200 mhz its 800mhz and 266 is 1066. Similar reason to why 3600 ram is not actually 3600 mhz but actually 1800 mhz being able to do 3600 MT/s because it is double data rate, but Intel uses quad pumping so even though it is rated at 800 or 1066 it would actually be 200 and 266.
Also, what is your problem with this exactly? You said that the CPU is reported correctly so is it unstable or something? Though I can't help beyond what I wrote above because I actually have never done this for myself. I'm just curious

Re: 1066 mod issue
Even with the FSB mod, the system still assumes the FSB is 800MHz, so the reported speeds are incorrect. However, you can verify the speed by running CPU benchmarks and comparing the results before and after the mod.

Re: 1066 mod issue
I meant p8700, my bad
Yeah, you could say it's unusable.
While it boots into the bios and reports it correctly (so the mod isn't at fault here), when I try to boot into windows, the os constantly BSOD's.
I tried to re-install windows, or even install linux, but none of these options seem to work, after some reasearch I'm pretty sure the fault lies at the ram.
My problem with flashing SPD's is tha,t my case is not simmilar in any way to what was described in the 1066 CPU tutorial. As I said previously, upon opening SPD Tool I was met with modules 4-6, and upon inserting second stick modules stayed the same which shouldn't happen. I flashed modules 4 and 5 which did not changed the timings in CPU-Z, so the flashing procedure was unsuccesful. I also flashed module 6 which caused timings to change, but resulted in bios errors while booting and still din't caused 1066 CPUs to operate, so I just flashed module 6 with original SPD.

Re: 1066 mod issue
Sounds like a problem with RAM. SPD-modded sticks should be stress-tested (with memtest86+) before running Windows. Are you blindly following the guides without understanding the underlying concepts?

Re: 1066 mod issue
Yeah, I'm not proud of it, but it's not like I have any experience in modding SPD's, so I have no other choice.axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 7:58 amSounds like a problem with RAM. Any tips on how to "correctly" flash SPD's?
