Can't find what the last device is

#1 Post by Kel Ghu » Sun Jun 18, 2006 5:12 am

Hey guys,

I have re-installed XP and installed vista, and in both case there is a device which has no driver and named "unknown device". I dont know what it is... I installed every single driver there is given on lenovo website.

Does anyone know what it is?

thanks

PS
By the way, I change my Chicony keyboard for an NMB and it is not much better. NMB keyb from china are not as good as thai's. I am pretty sure the best keyboard now are ALPS.
Vista runs well on T60p, though some stuff are still a bit slow with the V5200 but it is not the card imo, but the drivers.

T60p - 2007-83G - TMD - NMB - Sanyo (9)/Panasonic(6)
T43p - 2668-G4G - Hydis - NMB - Sanyo

While I'm very happy with my Chicony keyboard, I'm interested to know how and where you managed to get it exchanged for the NMD.

For me, the extra "unknown device" was the HD audio drivers. Installing the drivers from C:\DRIVERS\OTHER3 and running the installation package from C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\AUDIO removed the "unknown device" from the Device Manager.

Just call lenovo and tell them you have a problem with your keyboard, like you have a button that doesnt work. They will ship you a replacement keyboard. Just give them the FRU part you want. :P

I did call Lenovo and did express my (initial) dissatisfaction with the Chicony keyboard, and requested for the NMD keyboard, other than outright refusing to replace a non-broken part, they also said that the NMD keyboard was no longer available (at least the US-English keyboard).

I also wasn't going to outright lie to them that something was wrong with the keyboard, when it was perfectly alright. I'm now glad I hadn't gone ahead with the idea of getting the NMD keyboard, as I'm more than happy with my Chicony. While the keyboard on my T42 is an NMD, I'd just like to try out the NMD on the T60 for comparison purposes...

How to identify keyboard?

#5 Post by Geary » Sat Jul 08, 2006 12:25 pm

Is there a way to identify which keyboard I have in my T60p without taking the machine apart? Mine seems fine; I'm just curious which model it is.
