T60 15" SXGA+ FireGL for $1.350 - good deal?

#1 Post by gaphic2 » Tue May 13, 2008 3:13 am

What do you think? Here are some more details:

T7400(2.16GHz), 2GB RAM, 100GB 7200rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI FireGL V5250, DVD-MultiBurner DoubleLayer, WLAN a/b/g, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
(new, open box, IIIMDIT)

Warranty lookup:
  • Out of warranty 2007-12-18 UNITED STATES
This machine was sold by the manufacturer without warranty.
Parts lookup:
  • 29R7077 NOTAFRU COA LABEL, WINDOWS XP-PROFESSIONAL
    36P3366 40Y8403 1GB PC2 5300NP FRU

92P1132 42T4511 SANYO 9 CELL BATTERY FRU YES
There are some discrepancies between the Lenovo system lookup and the vendors specs. (Lenovo lists this model as having 1GB RAM, CDRW/DVDRW, Wireless upgradeable.)

Does anybody know what IIIMDIT might stand for?

Any google reference to IIIMDIT is in German, so I don't know. As far as the specs -

36P3366 40Y8403 1GB PC2 5300NP FRU
36P3366 40Y8403 1GB PC2 5300NP FRU

is equal to 2 GB RAM - (2x1GB sticks)

39T2678 39T2679 DVD RAM YES

is the same as

DVD-MultiBurner DoubleLayer

It does look like the seller added WiFi. In Belgium I suppose this is a good deal, maybe not if you have to get it from the US and pay import taxes and shipping. I've seen similar machines but with UXGA LCD's and warranty intact go for less on this forum.

Definitely a good deal if it is in EU.

This one's got Core 2 Duo T7400(2.16GHz) and ATI V5250. The other one in Harryc's link is T2600 Core Duo plus V5200. They must be taken into consideration. Also IMO, SXGA+ is slightly better for eyes than UXGA.

The only thing that would stop me from buying it would be a lack of warranty...

You may be better off finding one in US and importing it ...

Just my $.0.02...

Thanks for your feedback.

@ajkula66,
Ironically the machine was only recently exported to Europe. I can still see it on a US vendor cache page dating from the beginning of March.

I'm waiting for the vendor to explain 'IIIMDIT' and the warranty issue. What could the reasons be for Lenovo to remove the warranty from a new, open box item?

This is an example of the different end-of-line items you can encounter. Does anybody know in which scenarios #2, #3 and #4 could apply?

1. Brand new equipment, factory sealed, 1-3 year Manufacturer Warranty
2. New equipment, factory sealed, (No OEM Warranty)
3. Demo equipment that has been opened for short term use, balance of OEM warranty
4. Demo equipment that has been opened for short term use, no OEM warranty
5. Used, refurbished equipment Grade A - fully functional, no manuals
6. Used, refurbished equipment Grade B - fully functional, no manuals, up to 2 cosmetic imperfections which do not impede use

I'm thinking 'pallet falls off a forklift' for #2 and a box with a tear or 'returned because of whining fan' for #4, but I'm guessing.

Shouldn't more on this not be available on the IBM/Lenovo site somewhere?

Well, I went for it in the end. The vendor offers a three year warranty - but I guess that goes up in smoke if they go out of business between now and 2011 :) .

Everything was as it should be - they have added an Atheros abg card, which looks like getting a stronger signal than the Intel Pro 3945.

I'm amazed at the screen - it's exactly the same model as the one I have in the T60p, an LG LP150E05-A2. Color temperature looks a fraction cooler - slighly less yellow, but the panel is a full notch brighter than my current screen.

Has my CCFL - in use for about 9 months now - already deteriorated significantly? Lamp life for the BOE Hydis panels is just over three years, I don't have any info on LG.
