Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p
Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p
I'm thinking about buying a refurbished T61, my only real reference is my T60p I'm curious as to feedback on how important that "p" is? What kind of video performance numbers can I expect in Vista/win7?
Thank you
Thank you

Which T61 is it that you are considering (which CPU/GPU), and what do you mean by "video performance"?
Thinkpad 25 (20K7), T16 Gen 3 (21MQ), Yoga 14 (20FY), T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X220 4291-4BG

100GB Hard Drive, 7200rpm
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24x/24x/24x/8x Max, Ultra Slim(DVD read/CD write/CD re-write/CD read)
Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
Integrated 56K V.924 Internal Model
PC Card Slot & Media Card Slot (PCMCIA card slot for wireless broadband)
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
15.4" Widescreen WXGA LCD, Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ 1394
9 Cell Extended Life battery
Microsoft XP Professional
Warranty: 90 Days
My T60p has a 1600x1200 screen this has a 1280x800 screen
I'm also wondering how big of a problem it would be to add bluetooth to it. And these I think have the Gigabit that isn't crippled likein the T60p??? Right?
again thanks

I believe you can add bluetooth (39T0497) ...you might even be able to keep the LCD cable. That can be verified by checking the Thinkpad manual. The Intel graphics is OK but the lower resolution may not look as good as your T60p.

Gigabit in T60 crippled? That's news to me.

Re: Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p
The T61 will be a step back in both display and graphics performance. The WXGA panel is quite a bit below T60p's UXGA flexview, and the Intel integrated GPU is quite slow in 2D and 3D performance. The upsides are the GPU is a power sipper, and it is not a nVidia time bomb.
The Pro/1000PL in T60 can not use jumbo frames, if that is what DAH is referring to.dr_st wrote:Gigabit in T60 crippled? That's news to me.

Aaahh...
According to this:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=19297
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=34457
Neither the 82573L in T60 nor the 82566M in T61 series support jumbo frames.
According to this:
http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-006333.htm
http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-001911.htm
http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-009209.htm (scroll down to "Jumbo frames")
ftp://download.intel.com/design/network ... /82573.pdf (errata 17)
Jumbo frames up to 9K bytes are actually supported on the 82573L (T60) but not on the 82566MM (T61). However, you may need to use Intel ProSet software, and only starting from version 10.3.
So in regards to Jumbo frames, T61 is probably at least as crippled as T60. FWIW, I don't use ProSet software, and there seems to be no option to enable jumbo frames on my T60.
Edit:
According to this link, you would have to flash the EEPROM to enable Jumbo frames on T60:

Re: Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p
So I was wondering if this is a driver issue or a firmware one:dr_st wrote: Jumbo frames up to 9K bytes are actually supported on the 82573L (T60) but not on the 82566MM (T61). However, you may need to use Intel ProSet software, and only starting from version 10.3.

Re: Thinking about buying a T61, comparison to a T60p
Doesn't the T60 have the ability to physically hold 4GB of memory, whereas the chipset can only address 3GB? Hence the crippled GB.dr_st wrote:Gigabit in T60 crippled? That's news to me.

They're referring to the NIC, not the RAM.robert213 wrote:
