x40 problem - pee'd off
x40 problem - pee'd off
this is really annoying. Every few times I open my laptop up, I see the trackpoint indentation on the screen. I clean it off... and then it happens again.
I care for my laptop like a 3 day old infant. It never leaves either my desk or a zeroshock case... I close it slowly and cautiously, and still this is happening. I'm thinking I might have one with a design flaw...
What do i do?

Get one of these, the 12" powerbook g4 one fits perfectly. Prevents the oils from your fingers that build up on the trackpoint from touching the screen.

sk33,
I totally agree, I would be rather upset after spending that kind of $$$. Not all laptops suffer this drawback from a think stick (track point), my X20 doesn't. And as far as I am concerned, you shouldn't either. Have you tried speaking to different techs at different locations to learn of the resolutions available to you. Perhaps even discuss an exchange.

Selvan,
If you haven't noticed, the X40 is a lot thinner than an X20 (and 30), so the space between keyboard and display is reduced as part of the slimming process.
Do you guys use the standard cat's tongue trackpoint button? I'd bet the other two are probably a little easier on the screen since they don't tend to stick up too much.
It's not a question of "getting better from a $2k machine," it's just a matter of IBM having to make everything fit as close together as possible to get that awe-inspiringly small footprint.

Well, since it's two months, I don't think you'll be able to return it. You could give it a try though..sk33 wrote:Wouldn't I just get a refurbished one back?
I've only had this 2 months and have a 3 year warranty..
what's the return procedure like with IBM?
Any chance of getting a Dothan one out of them?
