IBM X3x LCD cover replacement parts - MAJOR flex issues!!!

#1 Post by Pennstate » Sun Feb 24, 2008 4:01 pm

Hi All,

I recently cracked the lcd cover on my X31. Fortunately, the LCD was not damaged. I ordered the replacement part (91P8900) from IBM.com.

After spending 3 hours replacing the lcd cover, I realized that the replacement part has major FLEX issues. My old part was very rigid, perfectly flat, no flex at all. The new part was warped inwards, ending up pushing against the screen. Any light pressure on the lid causes ripples on the screen.

I ordered another replacement from IBM. THe new part came and it's warped outwards, at least not putting any pressure on the screen. However, it still has major flex issues. If I put moderate pressure on the lid, it would warp inwards, pushing it against my LCD, causing ripples.

Has anyone encountered this issue? I am kind of pee'd that IBM has wasted at least 6 hours of my time and now I have to spend more time to get these RMA'd.

Please let post your experience if you have recently replaced the LCD lid. I think they may have changed the plastic resin for the LCD lid.

Thanks!
