Hello!
Recently I bought KingSpec 64GB PATA SSD to replace my old HDD because I found a lot of bad sectors in the HDD.
The new one fits into my X31 with 2GB.
I succeeded WinXP SP3 installation. It seemed fast at first.
After updating everything available from Microsoft site, I installed my workhorses and data.
The SSD is silent and emits lower heat.
It must be more stable physically than HDD. These are big benefits.
However, I am not sure of its fast speed that I expected the most.
Especially, when I switch one program to another, I have to wait for a long time because it requires a lot of reading.
Is this situation the limitation of X31 that has one processing core?
Is there any option for Windows or BIOS for using SSD?
Thank you.

Re: X31 +WinXP SP3 + KingSpec SSD, but not faster than expected?
Well...
First... I don't think XP is so smart with SSDs, then you'll still have the IDE limits concerning transfer speeds, and last but not least, Kingspec was kind of (in)famous regarding speed and reliability, although that was more with the 1.8" IDE models for the X4x series...
How full is the SSD now?
My 2 cents...

Re: X31 +WinXP SP3 + KingSpec SSD, but not faster than expected?
free 21.5GB out of 64GB
I just run some test with a software called HD TUNE.
It says:
Min, 18.6MB/s
Max, 77.9MB/s
Avg, 76.MB/s
Access time, 0.479ms
Burst rate, 67.9MB/s
CPU usage 11.4%
Random seek: 1.018 MB/s
Random seek 4KB: 7.615 MB/s
Bufferly seek: 1.050 MB/s
Random seek 64KB: 24.267 MB/s
Random seek 8MB: 80.236 MB/s
Sequential outer: 74.701 MB/s
Sequential middle: 77.827 MB/s
Burst rate: 58.248 MS/s
------------------
With HDD (80GB, of course in a totally different situation although similar contents)
here comes the result,
Min, 0.7MB/s
Max, 31.7MB/s
Avg, 5.4MB/s
Access time, 40.3ms
Burst rate, 78.7MB/s
CPU usage 14.9%
Random seek: 0.007 MB/s
Random seek 4KB: 0.062 MB/s
Bufferly seek: 0.011 MB/s
Random seek 64KB: 0.431 MB/s
Random seek 8MB: 19.213 MB/s
Sequential outer: 26.516 MB/s
Sequential inner: 23.459 MB/s
Burst rate: 29.010 MS/s
-----------------
According to the above tests,
SSD is much better than HDD except the burst rate in the first group.
However, when using SSD, I always experience lag between tasks and see HDD led turned on.
Thanks.

Why is my P1 Gen 7 so much better on battery? Cool, quiet, fast — but not on AC.
