I've got 2 IBM Thinkpads X41.
They have both 512 MB of RAM.
They have been bought with that amount of RAM.
Since they are not running very fast,
I would like to put the default built in RAM from one laptop into the other one.
But I don't know where to find the default RAM.
I did not disassemble my laptop completely, since I'm not sure where to look.
(I know how to upgrade by putting a module in the slot on the back side, but there I can't see the default RAM.)
Does anyone have an image which shows where it can be found?
Is it possible to remove the default RAM?
Best regards
Tom

Welcome to the forum.
Click on the HMM link at the top of this page, scroll down there and find Thinkpad X41.
To the right of it you'll find a link for the (illustrated) Hardware Maintenance Manual (PDF file).
Enjoy.
You can't take the 'standard' RAM out, is is soldered onto the motherboard.
But you can put in a 2GB RAM module (DDR2-4200 or DDR2-5300).
You would have physical 2.5GB, but usable only 2GB.

Thank you RealBlackStuff for your anser.
Upgrading the RAM with a new module is a piece of cake.
Best regards
Tom
This is what I thought, so no need to look further. You can't take the 'standard' RAM out, is is soldered onto the motherboard.
