Hello! I've got an idea for my SSD conundrum. I'm considering buying this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-2-5-Male-ID ... SwDk5TzcqA
and using my cheap Sandisk SSD. I can remove the outer casing, and the width is only about as wide as the SATA and power connectors. Its also only about an inch deep. Would this, in theory work? I've done some eyeball measurement, and it would fit easily within the caddy.
EDIT: screw it, taking the $2.00 'plunge'.

Re: X41 SSD
Don't do it!
Similar-looking adapter (bridge) parts have been discussed, though usually regarding feasibility in Tforty and Rfifty order. This part might work in X40. You almost certainly will not be happy with its performance in X41. X41 contains Marvell 88SA8040, bridges PATA (in bay) to SATA (in southbridge). That part which you consider is marked/labeled/printed "AS331 V1.3", looks like Sintech PA-5014B (MCA004), contains JMicron JM20330, bridges SATA device to PATA host. You will have double-bridged the bus: such hardware configs usually do not work well, if at all.
