X41T much brighter screen than X41

#1 Post by dfumento » Tue Apr 04, 2006 7:56 pm

I placed my X41T next to an X41 and it has a much, much brighter and nicer screen. It is a pity they don't put this LCD on all the 'X' series notebooks.

Do you take a hit on battery life for the higher brightness in the display? Some makers just add more back light to get a brighter display, others tweak the transmissive and reflective properties of the panel itself. I was just wondering which path Lenovo took.

It's a different panel altogether. X41 has a standard TN screen. X41T has an FFS (IPS) screen, which is brighter and doesn't have viewing angle distortions. I bet it consumes more battery as well.

Of course it needs more battery, since it also has to run the underlayed digitizer and can be driven usually, according to the panel maker specs, with a higher luminance. - However, the final brightness/luminance of the panels themself depends here more on the single CCFL backlights and how much they are dimmed by the notebook manufactor (the max. voltage given).

My X41T gets 4 hours on maximum brightness and WiFi with the 8-cell battery doing web browsing and emailng. How much time does the standard X41 get with the same maximum birghtness and WiFi?
