Embedded Controller Program Update Hangs!
hi all,
i have an X41 2527-6LU (if this post belongs in the X-Series forum, please move it). i think this Embedded Controller Program Update applies to not just the X41.
i have tried to update the bios in case that was the problem, but the bios updater reports that no flashing was necessary.
the embedded controller program update is trying to upgrade my system from 1.01 to 1.02 but hangs in the process.
basically the embedded controller program update restarts my system and everything is fine up until the point where it says it is updating the system and not to turn it off. at that point it has hung 4 times. it says "may take 30 seconds to complete" and i have waited over 30 minutes for it. the first couple of times i held the power button to turn it off, the last time it would not so i pulled the battery (i have just formatted and it is under warranty and at this point i am very frustrated).
flash update in bios is enabled. security chip disabled.
any ideas anyone?

Re: Embedded Controller Program Update Hangs!
Same thing here on a X41 Tablet (1869). I first updated BIOS from 2.02 > 2.06 as this is what lenovo suggests and then when trying to update the ECP from 1.01 > 1.02 it stayed for 15 minutes where it should have stayed for 30 seconds. I then decided to turn the laptop off (pressing the on/off switch did not work, so removed the battery). Hopefully everything is still fine but still having 1.01 ECP.
I am not attempting this again cause it is unlikely I am going to plug in a ps/2 keyboard on an external dock
but it is a shame this hasn't been resolved from lenovo since 2006.

Code: Select all
<1.02 (75HT20WW)>
Note: This version of Embedded Controller Program will only work with
BIOS Version 1.01a (or higher).
- (Fix) Previously released Embedded Controller 1.01(75HT19WW) may
cause a spontaneous wrong key input when you key input with an
external PS/2 type keyboard.
- Numeric characters (2, 4, 6 and 8) will be inserted
intermittently during cursor move with cursor keys.
- A keyboard behaves as if shift key depressed until a shift
key is pressed.
- You can only type only Uppercase characters. (Some
keys seem to keystrokes, because the shift cases are
not defined)
- Multiple selection with cursor keys
- Numeric keypad will turn to cursor keys4:3 T61 SXGA+, R61i 4:3 15'', X41T

You should get a USB floppy drive.
I've never had a problem on any Thinkpad below X60/T60/R60 to update BIOS or ECP using a USB floppy drive.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Most of the times you are right...including this one
Guess what: I did have a usb floppy drive and it did work. The only reason it didn't cross my mind was that the diskette version was under the OS/2, DOS/Windows 3.x category and I only looked under the XP one. Doh!
Cheers
