1.8 SSD for X4 series
In China we now have 1.8 SSD especially for x4 series.Look at the pics:

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
i had it now! from 51nb
Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
Your links are broke!
When you say "especially for the x4 series", do you mean with the x4 IDE connector? i.e. no ZIF adapter needed?

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
Now THAT is interesting.
A direct plug-in SSD replacement for X4x hard drives, 1.8" PATA SSD with X4x-style IDE connector!
No muss, no fuss!
I wont one!
thanks uux.

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
It really looks like it was made for the X4x series. Just clip the HDD cover on, and in it goes. I wonder what availability and pricing will be like. I tried to follow the discussion in their forums through the Google translator. From what I gather, the price was listed at $599 CNY, which is about $88 USD.
Edit:
$599 CNY appears to be an auction price. (link)

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
I glanced through the article and think this maybe interesting to you...
"至于卡不卡,absolutely yes!在边测边写评测这段时间,我就碰到过几次。有时从网上下载的测试软件(都比较小的),解压后进入目录都卡呆住了。所以说在卡这个问题上对这块MLC的山寨SSD寄予太高希望,是不现实的。但客观的说,即便如此,也是可以接受的,毕竟发生频次不算高。另外,这块SSD在X40不会出现2010错,但X41/X41T上肯定有。"
Does it freeze? Absolutely yes! I have encountered several times when I was testing the product and writing this review. A few times after I downloaded some benchmark software via the Internet (small sizes) and uncompressed, it froze when I tried to browse the folder. So it's unrealistic if you expect much from this off brand SSD with MLC chips solving the freezing issues. But objectively speaking, it's still acceptable, since the frequency of occurance is not high. Besides, this SSD does not have error 2010 on X40, but I'm sure it does on the X41/X41T.

From my experience on buying some computer parts through Taobao, often the auction price *is* the sell price.uux wrote: Edit:

Postage is not included through.
Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
Thank you, loyukfai. Your posts are very helpful and appreciated.
Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
Thanks loyukfai. I thought there had to be some reason for the lowish price.
But at that price, I'm going to give it a whirl anyway!

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
You're welcome. I agree that at this price, it's still an attractive option. : )
Maybe I'll get one for my friend's X41T as well...

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
ASAX has changed the price for 1.8 IDE 32G SSD from 599CNY to 999CNY. That is unacceptable...
But another company seems to participate in the 1.8 IDE SSD group. see http://www.kingspec.com/
I am sure in nearly future (maybe half year) we can get better and cheaper 1.8 IDE SSD.

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
Nice find mario_zhou. Finally some action on a real SSD's for the X40/41! I'm going to try to score one in March. The price upswing is disappointing, but it seemed too low to start with.
I see that ASAX also has a 64G version for 1299CNY! Notice the nice PhotoShop on the capacity label.

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
The SSD from Kingspec (link Below) seems to need 5v
Does the X40/41 not use 3.3v?

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
X40/X41 supply 3.3V at the IDE connector. Most if not all 1.8 inch HDD use 3.3V.
Can you run Crystal DiskMark on these 1.8 inch SSD and report the results?huanghuck wrote:i had it now! from 51nb

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
- 2010 error is there. Unless you got an elder version of BIOS.
- Partitioning is possible. It just works like an ordinary HDD.

Re: 1.8 SSD for X4 series
I was able to bargain the price down a bit since I needed two 64GB units for the two x41t that I have. So I ordered two and eagerly waiting for it. I noticed that lately, things coming from China takes lot longer than it should...virge wrote:I've been keeping an eye on this thread because I have an X41 in pieces and am hoping to fix it still....I just did a quick Ebay search and these new drives being sold there. I have all the CrystalDiskMark screenshots from my old laptops (t61, hp tx2500, t43, etc) , so once I get it, I'll do a review on it and let you guys know. Having this side-way plug doesn't help the resale value, but man...I'm glad I don't have to fiddle with ZIF to IDE converters and such...

Here's a list I used to compare against other SSDs:
http://kettya.com/notebook2/crystaldiskmark.htm
The peak speed of the Mtron unit seems higher, but random 4 kb writes on this Kingwin drive seems faster, which is half the slowdown in a system.
I think I'll be placing my order tomorrow.
