Using XP Mode in Windows 7 on X41?
Using XP Mode in Windows 7 on X41?
Hi everybody
I have installed Windows 7 Professional on my X41 and couple of weeks ago I wanted to use Windows XP Mode on the laptop, but it didn't work. I think it was due to some graphic rendering, but I can't remember.
I have just experienced a problem with Windows 7 and dialing up by modem, and it seems I need XP badly.
Is it possible to get XP Mode to work?
Or is there any other low-space solution for me to run XP? I have a valid license for XP also if I should need some other way of running a virtual version of XP.
Regards, Martin

Re: Using XP Mode in Windows 7 on X41?
The CPUs in the X41 do not support virtualization, which means no XP Mode in Windows 7. I don't know of another way, but I'm no guru. I suppose there's dual boot, but that will take up a chunk of space.

If you can't get the modem drivers to work for dialup under 7, your best bet is a small XP dual boot install. The obvious issue being down time while rebooting, and the hassle of keeping more then one windows install maintained.

Or, install Virtual PC 2007 from Microsoft. Hardware virtualization is not a requirement for VPC 2007.

Dual boot. You could run your XP os on less than 10gig of your hard drive, with no extra stuff installed installed you can get it to around 6. I do suggest installing XP first, then 7. Theres lots of data around on dual boot scenarios. All my daily use machines have XP and either 2003 server or Vista. I did dual boot XP and 7rc on my X31 for a while and that worked fine.
Re: Using XP Mode in Windows 7 on X41?
Dual boot is not an option unless I make an extremly neat nLite of XP. I have 32 GB in total and wont waste 4-5 GB on XP just for modem.
It's not the modem drivers that doesn't work with Windows 7 but it is MS-CHAPv.2 that is probably not supported by the server I'm calling.
I will not need to call it after March or April and I installed a modem in an old workstation instead.
But still XP mode is nice. I might try with VirtualPC, but that also takes up a lot of space.

Btw. I first have to fix Windows 7 again after trying to hibernate, which messed it up. Maybe due to FlashFire or something.
