So ive always been a bit obsessed with temperature.

My x41-t gets pretty toasty though when I'm watching a movie and my laptop is on my lap. Most of the heat is coming from the southbridge (or northbidge) heatsink, right near the ram slot.

I have done pretty much everything I can think of to reduce temps; Arctic silver 5 on both heatsinks, copper ram heatspreader, fan running low most of the time, undervolted to the max, etc). But the laptop still gets way too hot and is uncomfortable when using on your lap for extended periods of time.

What can I do? I was thinking of tearing the laptop down and using aluminum roofers tape on the inside, to reflect the heat. Problem is, it will still get heat soaked and I'm back to square one.

253 degrees celcius for the HD? I'm pretty sure that is wrong.

Why is your fan on low? Let the BIOS control fan speeds and more than likely your temps will drop. I can understand undervolting but I always leave the fan to what the thermal sensors tell it to do.

Something is not right. Normally the lowest CPU temp should be 40-45 deg C and HDD no more than 50-60 deg C.

I left my computer in the car overnight (i live in colorado). The hdd temp corrected itself when it hit 0*C

And the stock fan settings make the X41 into a little spaceheater, it is much cooler to have my CPU temp stay around 40-45*C compared to 50-60*c.

How much did you gain by applying Arctic Silver instead of the original paste?

I went from a 40*c idle to 38*c. (6x multiplier, .7v, 30 min boot to idle).
