Making the LCD brighter
Making the LCD brighter
I noticed on my girlfriends current x23 that the LCD is pretty dim. I know this happens with age, but I was wondering if it is possible to refurb it by putting in a new backlight or something of that nature? Anybody have any information on this or where to get the parts? I'd love to do this for her then maybe she won't steal my x31 from me. Thanks!

It is not the easiest thing to do but it is cheap and definately do-able.
I did one last week on a T20 and it is almost too bright.

Given the difficulty of disassembling the relatively small LCD on the X series machines I would suggest you seriously consider just replacing the entire LCD with one from eBay.
But, if you're comfortable under the hood working in tight quarters give replacing the backlight a shot, just take your time and don't force anything.
Regards,
James

JHEM hit the nail on the head.
It is not a job for the light hearted.
If you are not comfortable working with small, delicate parts that fit tightly together in very little space or you are not good at soldering very small wires quickly then just replace the entire LCD display.
If you are adventerous then gamble $20.00 and see what happens.

Wow! When I first became a training intructor my boss told me if you couldn't spend 45 minutes talking about a light bulb, you had no business being an instructor...carbon_unit wrote:http://www.lcdpart.com/doc/ccflmeasure.html
"The CCFL in simplest terms is a gas-discharge light source, which produces its output from a stimulated phosphor coating inside the glass lamp envelope. A CCFL can be described as a transducer converting electrical energy into light energy...."
It's a light bulb Jim!
