X61 display cable to hdmi board

#1 Post by x61needy » Sun Oct 09, 2022 3:34 am

Hello, I’m trying to connect my x61 display to a raspberry pi. Is there a board that can convert the display cable to hdmi? Does anyone know what the display cable/connector is called? By display cable/connector, i’m referring to the ribbon that comes down from the display and connects to the motherboard (sorry for the lack of technical terms).

You need a compatible LCD controller board that has DVI or HDMI input. Something like this one, or this one.

Note: contact the seller beforehand before ordering the item. Specify the exact brand and model of your LCD panel to ensure that you receive the correct board.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

My problem is I can’t find one with the kind of connector that the ribbon cable has at the end of it. You can see what it looks like:

Unless I’m thinking about this wrong and the connector on the display ribbon doesn’t matter?

The LCD controller board in the links I gave already have a cable to connect the X61 LCD to the controller board itself. You don't need the flat LCD cable from the X61.

Unless what you want is a way for the X61 laptop itself to have an HDMI input, so you can keep using the laptop normally while having a way to view the video output from the Raspberry Pi. You could use a USB HDMI capture card like this one, though I don't know if it would work well.

Ok, awesome. I wasn’t sure what this meant until I actually opened up the screen and realized I could just remove the ribbon from the screen end. I really appreciate your help, thanks!
