X61s, Windows 7, mute button works, but no visual indication?
I've been installing 64-bit Windows 7 on my X61s in preparation for selling it. I've downloaded and installed everything essential that I could find, and have only one question:
The volume control buttons under the screen work correctly, and the changes are reflected in the speaker icon in the taskbar. The mute button also works, but gives no visual indication that the system is muted.
Is there a fix for this, or this is a Windows 7 "thing"?

There should be something like TPVOLUME running. Try and download another version of it if possible.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Thank you, but TPVOLUME doesn't show up anywhere. Could you give some more detail of what I should be looking for online?

Search up some combination of "Thinkpad"/"TP", "Volume", and "On-screen display"/"OSD"Edward Mendelson wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 4:34 pmThank you, but TPVOLUME doesn't show up anywhere. Could you give some more detail of what I should be looking for online?
I meant something that looks kinda like TPVOLUME...I know TPVOLUME doesnt exist I couldn't remember the name.
See if there is any TP *.exe...especially TPOSD.exe and TPOSDSVC.exe both in task manager and on your hard disk.

SOLVED, thanks to the last post here:

Thanks to this thread, I realized I should search for "OSD" and that solved the problem. Thank you!
