Will X60 & X60s be able to run full Vista's Aero UI?

Will X60 & X60s be able to run full Vista's Aero UI? i just want to know because microsoft said that the hardware requirement is fast graphic card with dedicated memory, didn't they?

They did; they also stated that, amongst some other laptops, the IBM Thinkpad T43 is "recommended" to run Windows Vista. The X60/s should be able to handle the Aero GUI for Windows Vista just fine.

I don't know for sure, though; yet it would really suprise me if they had no intentions of running Windows Vista on it in the first place. It may shift over some of the graphics load to one core, as most modern FPS games do (Half Life 2, Far Cry, etc); traditionally, the CPU has always been under-utilized in most Grahpics intensive applications that are not industry related; games, certain GUIs, etc. Since both the X60 and the X60s will have dual core technology, it would make sense to offload some of the work that a discrete grahpics card would do onto the CPU on at least one core.

I found this page on Intel's website:

To summarize, it says: "The Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 on both the Intel® 945G and Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipsets will support the Windows Vista Display Driver model (WDDM) drivers"

It does not specifically mention aero, but supporting the WDDM drivers seems to be the primary requirement for it.

In order to run the high-end Aero interface, you will need a graphics card that supports DirectX v9.

All the recent news articles about the non-support by 50% of the computers out there were based on their internal video cards not supporting DirectX v9.

The 950 video chip DOES support directx v9.

Now, they also say that the interface needs a video card with a dedicated graphics memory, but I doubt that is as important.

I strongly suspect that the X60 WILL be able to use the Aero interface, but really, only time will tell.

Full Aero Glass UI works fine on T42p with 15" LCD and ATI Fire Mobility GL T2 and with T43 with X300 and 14" LCD. I haven't tried high-demand games on these, though, because (1) I can't play Quake3 or 4 or BFVietName with a trackpoint and (2) I have other PCs with mice to play them on. I doubt they'd do well with these games, though.
