two problems of my X60S (maybe general defects from design?)

My X60S has worked pretty well performance-wise. I enjoy using it.

few weeks ago, I reported two problems of my X60S--one is the the left-mouse is noticebly much noisier than the other two mouse keys. The other mouse keys are just as good as the ones on X31 but the left-key is noise like a 90's desktop keyboard.

The other problem is noise coming from the hard drive area.

Today I receive a new keyboard and a new HD from Lenovo. Now here is the report.

1, keyboard: the new keyboard is little quieter but still noticeably noisier than the other two keys.

BTW, both the keyboards bear a FRU of 39T7265.

2, HD: unfortunately, the moment I turn on the machine, I hear the noise. This time, as I put the HD back on without putting back the keyboard in place, I hear the noise directly from the HD. So I guess it is a design problem of the HD rather than Lenovo's problem.

My original HD is hitachi. The new one is a Toshiba. As they are both very noisy, I guess it is basically SATA's drive's problem.

The noise is not terribly bad but it is like a bee flying around your ear. Moreover, there is no problem with PATA drives.

Just an update. It seems that T60 also got the same HD whoosh problem.

The left mouse button on my X60s is also slightly louder than the other two. I wonder if its due to what's underneath the keyboard, i.e. maybe it's hitting something different than what the other buttons are hitting. If that's the case, changing the keyboard won't solve the "problem" (I put the word in quotes because I don't find it a problem at all).

On the other hand, the HDD isn't loud at all, although what "loud" means is subjective.

I just tried the keyboard on a flat area. All keys sound the same. So I guess you are right. Maybe something underneath is kind of not flat.

About the HD, during the day time, it is not annoying at all. Recently, I get up pretty early, like 5:30am. Then the noise problem is pretty annoying.

the clicking noise still persist right?
this is just a matter of reducing the clicking noise level, not totally eliminate it.

Of course not. The OP just wants to reduce the left button noise to the same level as that for the other two buttons. The only way to eliminate the clicking noise would be to tap the touchpad!

Mouse key problem solved. Thanks everybody.

I opened the keyboard again and found that there is a concave area. That is where the noise comes from. Not sure why Lenovo designed that area. for a battery?? Please see the picture.

I made a piece of cushion out of my duct tape. Now the noise is gone.

Well, I just use the standard black duct tape that I bought from a local store. In US, people can buy it from HomeDepot or Lowes. In Australia, I really do not know.
