Poor "N" wireless performance?

#1 Post by gongo » Tue Jun 24, 2008 8:15 am

I just got a linksys "N" router and I must say.. I am very disappointed with my internal wireless card. I when streaming videos online, a hard line to the router is about 100x faster than using the wireless. I thought the "N" stuff was supposed to be fast and yet some videos will barely load. Is this just a poor wireless card on my part?

Should I get a new "N" card and plug it in to my X61? or is there something that I'm missing?

well which N router did you get and which card do you have? Obviously N was designed faster so if it's not working as it should then there's a problem somewhere. The answer lies in what you have or a combination or stuff.

I have the internal Intel AGN card that lenovo offers and a Linksys - Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router with 4-Port Switch . My wireless speeds are terrible right now.

I could be mistaken, but from what I've read, you need to be using AES to get the full 300Mbps...
T60p: T7400, 4GB, 15" UXGA Flexview, V5200, Seagate XT 500GB 7200rpm hybrid, DVD-RW, Atheros AGN, BT, Win7 Ultimate x64
X200s: SL9400, 4GB, WXGA+ LED, 160GB Intel X25-M G2, WiMax/WiFi Link 5350, MC8781 WWAN, BT, Win7 Ultimate x64

streaming from the internet. I'll use wireless and it'll load so slowly that it's faster to walk over to the router, plug in and have it load on my computer.
