Ideapad S10 being phased out for the S10e?

#1 Post by Thinkpaddict » Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:15 pm

I'm wondering, since I'm having some trouble finding any retailers carrying the S10 besides Lenovo. If true, it's too bad, since the S10 has cut down on the vertical resolution (1024x576 vs the S10's 1024x600.) That is a deal breaker for me, so I might have to hurry up and get one of the last ones. Or is the S10's production run far from over?

Yours truly (newly infected by the S10 fever.) :D

Indeed, the S10 is more desirable than then 10e model.

TigerDirect has them in white for $350. Amazon has them available for 'pre-order' if you want black. They pop up every now and then on newegg.

If you want one, consider submitting an order to Lenovo directly. For pre-build models like the s10, they should ship soon, relative to the CTO models.

I agree with you GatorHawk. Far more desirable. I noticed Amazon had them available for pre-order, which I don't understand very well (haven't these been out for quite a while now?)

I might hold on and see if Amazon starts carrying them soon (I like dealing with Amazon), which is going to be a test on my patience.

So the S10 isn't being discontinued then? Too bad Lenovo doesn't have some more distributors then.

I don't think they would drop the S10 in favor of the S10e.

I think the S10 will be produced until the next major hardware revision of the S10 shows up from Lenovo (e.g.: faster FSB, upgraded chipset, etc).

Was seriously considering one, but went with an new lenovo direct X61s 'closeout' instead (ended up about twice the price of an S10, but worth it IMHO).

Yeah, I think you are right. I actually called Amazon to figure out what the "available for pre-order" means, and how come they didn't have the S10 available for sale, and the guy told me that it has to do with supplier (in this case Lenovo) availability. He also told me that they expected to have the S10 available within a few weeks, so I will hold on for that.

It sounds you got an incredible bargain for the X61s, congratulations. Have you found the palmrest heat issue to be an actual issue?

So far, have had no issues of excess heat from the palm rest, even when using the WiFi (4965AG).

The right side palm rest is just barely warmer than the left side. Not really noticeable and wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Measuring with Core Temp, this Vista32 w/ 3GB, 5.4k rpm HD, 'Balanced' power profile, idles at 42-45c in a 78f room. Going to try XP for testing and see if temps change at all.

That's actually quite good. My X24 idles at 46C in a 70F room. I might pick up a 61s in the future second hand in eBay, I've heard they are awesome machines.

Talking about Vista, I was very surprised to see that the S10 can run Vista with full Aero effects with no problem. At the price these ones go, it's pretty much a no brainer to get one (hopefully they are also reliable and durable.)

The S10 will probably be phased out for the S10-2:
