X220 WiFi Card Pin 51

#1 Post by JPOESQ » Sat Feb 01, 2020 6:51 pm

I decided to upgrade my X220 with modded bios and an AC7260 combo card. After installing the 7260, I disabled the BT daughter card that was already in the X220. Everything is working as it should.

I didn’t tape over pin 51, which is what all of the posts seem to say is required for the card to work. Mine works without the tape. It’s a NOS Intel card with no modifications.

What does taping over pin 51 do, and why does my card work without the tape?

it activates the built-in Bluetooth functionality of the 7260-AC WLAN card, that's what it does. normally pin 51 (W_DISABLE2# or RESERVED) shouldn't be used according to the MiniPCIe specifications.

your X220 originally came with a Bluetooth daughter card installed, right? if it did, that's the reason why your 7260-AC WLAN card worked without requiring pin 51 to be taped.

Yes indeed. My X220 came with BT so that makes sense about pin 51. Thank you.
