x201 vs x230 sdd

#1 Post by TOTAL » Thu Feb 13, 2020 1:57 pm

Hi
I am thinking of changing x201 for x230 and it turns out that the crucial mx300 sdd I have in x201 may not fit into the newer computer.

The disk appears to be too big - or is it only the one metal part that sticks out? I wonder if I will need to buy a new sdd to fit into x230, and if yes, maybe it would be better to go for x220, which I have read uses the same standard as x201.

Can you help me with this, please?

X201 can fit 9.5mm or 7mm drives.

X220 and X230 can only fit 7mm drives.

Most SSDs are 7mm already, maybe you need a 7mm caddy.

Yes, it worked :) Thank you.

I was not sure if the metal part was integral to the drive or just an extra casing.
