Trackpoint middle-click scrolling

Anyone using trackpoint as mouse wheel?
It doesn't work in some applications.
Windows 10 Pro x64 Thinkpad X200

This is one of the highlights of the trackpoint. I can't imagine any trackpoint user not making use of this feature.

Windows 10 and 8 drivers can be finicky with the trackpoint, but works just as expected under windows 7 and linux.

Works for me, X220 & Windows 10. Never had any real issue with it, and I don't remember it being any different in Windows 7.
Where it doesn't work (and never has, really) are lists such as drop-down menus.

However, I've always had mine set to "Use as middle click". The "Use for scrolling" has always been super finicky even in Windows 7.

It works fine in explorer, chrome, opera but doesn't in firefox
It doesn't work in my favourite music production program Renoise where I need it most.

Funny... Windows Explorer is one of the things that has never worked for me whereas Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Office, LibreOffice, and many more have always worked as expected.

Do you have your middle button action set to scrolling or middle click? What version is your Synaptics driver? Are you using the one provided by Lenovo (UltraNav) or the one provided directly by Synaptics? I've never really liked Lenovo's UltraNav driver and have been using the Synaptics one for years, it's much more capable than the Lenovo one and works much better.

Oh I see... you are in 'middle click' mode.
So it works for you in firefox because it has its own middle-click scroll function.
(firefox>options>advanced>autoscrolling)
Switch to 'scrolling' and do some tests please (explorer,firefox)?

I didnt install anything from lenovo, all drivers came from windows (updates).

I did just change it to 'scrolling' but oddly enough in that mode scrolling doesn't work anywhere. I've tried Firefox, Edge, Chrome, Windows Explorer, Outlook, Excel and Putty. With 'middle click' it works in every application from that list except Windows Explorer and Putty. Also, with 'middle click' I can open new tabs in any browser as well as close them again without aiming for that teeny-tiny X, the lack of which I would find highly annoying.

If you've only installed drivers from Windows Update you're running Lenovo's UltraNav software. You should be able to find it in your list of installed software in control panel. They've started distributing that through Windows Update, and I've had to manually block it to keep it overwriting my manually installed synaptics driver. Here's an idea: go to http://synaptics.com/resources, download the latest driver (should be 19.0.19.1, I'm still running 19.0.17.115) and give it a shot. Like I said, the Synaptics driver is so much better than Lenovo's UltraNav it pains me to even consider going back to UltraNav. Just make sure to create a system restore point before you update the driver, that way you will always be able to go back to what you had before.

I installed synaptics drivers but it's not showing up in mouse properties.

In that case they're not properly installed. Maybe Synaptics f***ed up once more and forgot to sign the drivers digitally again. I know that this was the case with 19.0.17.115 where they could not be installed unless you rebooted with driver signature verification disabled. Try that: hold down your SHIFT key, restart your laptop and then disable driver signature verification. Install the Synaptics driver once more, reboot (this time normally) and see if it helped.

So I literally just went through this. I got it to work on my X200s under Windows 10 64bit.

I found the way of installing ultranavi driver to my X61 which doesnt have ultranavi pointing device but only trackpoint.
Now I can use trackpoint scrolling on Windwos10 startmenu and metro apps including Microsoft Edge browser!!

1) install ultranavi driver : http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds103517
2) During installation, it is rejected to install driver but it's ok.
3) open device manager, select trackpoint and search new driver. It is important not to search automatically nor via internet but select driver on PC (use disk search option).
4) My windows10 is 64bits so I selected the folder C:\DRIVERS\WIN\UltraNav\WinWDF\x64
5) go installation (select Synaptics Pointing Device!! in may case ThinkPad Pointing Device cases problem of startup process of Windows) and restart pc.
6) Property of mouse now shows UltraNavi tab instead of TrackPoint tab and touchpad is gray out but trackpoint works including chage of setting.

There exists a possibility that only above-mentioned specific driver works but I suppose this way can be applied to some old ThinkPad without pointing device but only trackpoint device.

His instructions were a little hard to follow but in the end it worked for me. But I did it a little differently.

I extracted the above driver, did not install anything. Went to device manager, found the PS/2 Compatible mouse and updated the driver.

-Click "Browse my computer..."
-Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer..."
-Click "have disk" and select the folder mentioned above, "C:\DRIVERS\WIN\UltraNav\WinWDF\x64" or wherever they extracted
-Select "Synaptics Pointing Device" (I selected Thinkpad Pointing device the first time, and after I restarted I had no mouse)

Let it install, then reboot and it should hopefully work. In mouse settings I have a greyed out Touchpad portion, but the trackpoint works properly in all apps now.

Thanks! Scrolling works in every app.
But I cant turn scrolling off (to use middle click) - it was possible in driver from windows update.

Search my posts; the recent drivers are completely [explicits go here]. I still have an older (working) version stored.

For middle click functionality I use TPmiddle.exe that I put in the startup map.

I would have post a link myself, but mobile reception is pretty bad here.
