Using a to usb-c to power adapter? X230
Using a to usb-c to power adapter? X230
Hi, so i bought this power adapter: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Type-C-F ... 4278327713
The question is what kind of (minimum (and preferably minimal form factor)) power supply do i need to have? And any dangers in using these cheap 3rd party adapters?

If the adapter provides wrong voltage, it may damage the machine. I never tried these cheap adapters to know what they actually do.
Thinkpad laptops of this generation need 20V, 3.25A (65W) or higher. So whatever power brick you get - must be able to output this exact voltage, and at least that much amperage.

"Charging Power Requirement: 90W or higher. 7.9*5.5 Plug to USB C cable, perfect for charging your devices with power bank or USB C wall charger. .. " just re-read description,, can't really see why it would need 90W or higher? hmm
Re: Using a to usb-c to power adapter? X230
X series was generally shipped with 65W adapter. T series were shipped with 65W or 90W adapters, depending on CPU and GPU configurations. W series would require 135W adapters, sometimes more.
In practice, even most T-series with dual-core CPU and discrete GPU would not consume more than 65W. But if you power a dock, and many peripherals, 90W is prudent. For X-series a 65W is probably OK.

So this should work,. However it may be pushing the envelope with these ultra affordable electronics?

Hi, do you have a multimeter? Could you please measure resistance between centre pin on this adapter and outer metal ring contact on this adapter. What does it measure? I am talking about the round barrel plug that goes into Thinkpad. I'd expect one of 10K, infinity - no connection, 0 resistance (unlikely), 1.5K (unlikely)Wwuoo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 5:17 amHi, so i bought this power adapter: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Type-C-F ... 4278327713

It may not work, but USB-C shouldn't damage anything. The max voltage provided by any proper USB-C charger is 20V or less, so there should be no risk of damage (unless you somehow get a noncompliant USB-C charger that does >20V only)dr_st wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 5:26 amIf the adapter provides wrong voltage, it may damage the machine.
