X201: Improving WiFi...BIOS Whitelist Issue?

#1 Post by RVC » Fri Apr 15, 2022 11:57 am

I am familiar with the BIOS Whitelist on my X230's but I do not know the situation for my X201.

Please let me know and refer suitable reference threads.

A quick web search shows this: https://archive.org/details/thinkpad-x- ... -whitelist
Though I don't have an X201 to test it with.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Thanks for the referral but I must admit I prefer to know this is safe to use before using it. I downloaded the zipfile to review the contents. My BIOS is v1.37 so I also have to be concerned about this factor.

The README.TXT file inside contains instructions.

1. Flash original BIOS (included in the zip file)
2. Reboot
3. Flash modified BIOS, run the WinPhlash (32 or 64 bit), click "Advanced Settings" then check and uncheck the boxes so it looks like this:

("Flags" Tab):
[ ] Verify BIOS part number
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is different
[ ] Flash only if BIOS version is newer
[ ] Verify BIOS image size
[ ] Verify BIOS checksum
[ ] Zero block before erasing
[x] Verify block after programming
[x] Disable Axx swaping automatic detection (if present)
[ ] Clear CMOS Checksum

("DMI" tab)
"Update": Select "Update the BIOS and not DMI"

Reminders:
1. Disconnect from the internet before and disable all antivirus software before attempting to flash the BIOS.
2. A working battery should be installed, and the charger plugged in, before attempting to flash the BIOS.
3. I personally haven't tried flashing the BIOS in Windows 8 and later, so I cannot guarantee that it will work on those OSes.

axur-delmeria I am so glad to find that you are still here!

I just bought an X201 Tablet and would like to add bluetooth and also remove the whitelist so I can install an Intel AC 7260 2.4GHz / 5GHz mini card.

Is the whitelist removal bios above acceptable for use with the X201 Tablet model?
