Is there a Whitelist? and can I install BT?

#1 Post by E350 » Thu Jun 16, 2022 8:58 pm

Got an 1802 mini card error when I installed an Intel AC 7260 (2.4GHz & 5GHhz) card.
Is there a whitelist removal tool?
If so, can someone provide a link to the whitelist removal file?
Also is there a better Intel mini card out there which I should be using instead of the AC 7260?

Also, incredibly it does not have Bluetooth.
I installed a BDC-4 daughter 60Y3305 card and the screw hole does not line up with the case. And although I restarted and also scanned for Hardware Changes in Device Manager, it is not recognized.
What is the best Bluetooth Daughter card to use and how can I get BT working?

Here's the modded BIOS: https://www.mediafire.com/file/3jz7llic ... t.rar/file
(X201 and X201T use the same BIOS)
X201/T takes BDC-2.1 modules, a 4-module probably is too new for that slot.
Take it out before you put in the AC-7260 with BT4.

RBS! Great to see you are still around!
I hope you are enjoying Ireland.

Do I extract the Bios update to a USB, then change boot order to start from USB first to flash the BIOS?
Or can I just click on the .exe file in the extraction to flash the BIOS?
Thank you for your help.

I removed the Intel AC 7260 and the BT daughter card and installed the 11agn mini card which came with the laptop.

then I downloaded the zip file which RBS linked above.

Then I just went for it, I opened up the 64-bit file folder and double clicked on Winphlash.exe and let it run.

I then reinstalled the Intel AC 7260 without the BT daughter card.

And behold both 5GHz and 2.4GHz work on the Intel AC 7260 now !!!!

But here is the kicker, the BT is working too. It is working from the BT chip on the Intel AC 7260 mini card.

One little irritant, the laptop beeps two sessions of five beeps each upon boot up.

But otherwise works as it should.

Thanks RBS!

To stop the beeps, disable the Security chip in BIOS.
Also try this: switch off, disconnect power and remove battery, then hold down the Power button for ~20 seconds.

Yea! Disabled the Security Chip in BIOS and now the beeps are gone!

Thanks RBS!

A couple of comments about the beeps and disabling security. I ran into the same issue after successfully installing the 7260 card. My x201 would issue two series of five beeps on boot up. I followed the suggestions and disabled security. The beeps disappeared. Yeah! Oh, now I have to enter my bitlocker recovery key! OOPS! Fortunately, I have my key handy and enter. Everything boots up normally. Let's shutdown and restart. Now I have to enter my bitlocker recovery key! Not good. Following other Lenovo advice I disable my bitlocker and wait an hour to re-enable. OOPS! Will not re-enable as it does not see security enabled in BIOS. I decrypt my hard drive and restart. Everything normal now, except my hard drive is no longer encrypted. Since this drive contains no mission critical info, not essential to re-encrypt. Will continue to monitor. However, as an addendum to the 7260 wifi upgrade procedure, I suggest, check whether your security is enabled in BIOS. If so, disable bitlocker, if engaged, and decrypt your drive. Then restart and disable security. Confirm your machine boots properly before performing the swap-out, bios flash, etc. Once all is good, you can decide whether to re-engage your security and bitlocker. Probably worth two cents. Thanks for all of the prior help!

I have not found any explanation anywhere for the 5-beeps/pause/5-beeps.
These particular beeps only seem to happen after you flash a modded BIOS, usually one with the wifi-whitelist removed.
I assume that the checksum of such a modded BIOS is not correct and causes those beeps.
It is possible to correct that checksum, using e.g. this tutorial, but this stuff is not for the faint-hearted!

Since I don't use any security settings such as Fingerprint, Bitlocker, TPM, etc. I always disable the security chip anyway.
