About the T420s display...
About the T420s display...
Hello !
Well, I'm planning to acquire a T420s but I'm used to read that the display on this model is of very poor quality...
Is it really true ?
Thanks and best wiches from France

Re: About the T420s display...
Yes, the T420s use TN or twisted nematic LCDs that are known for offering poor contrast and narrow viewing angles. If you want a ThinkPad of the same era I might suggest the X220 that was offered with an IPS screen that's significantly better and brighter too, though is limited to 1366x768 resolution and not all had it, so you'll want to ask before spending money on it. If you want a bigger screen or more resolution, starting with the 40 series ThinkPads like the T440 or L540, most offered at least a 1080p IPS screen option, but the 40 series came with the goofy buttonless track point, so if you're a stick user you want to bump up to the 50 series. Good luck my friend and vive la France.

Re: About the T420s display...
AFAIK it uses the same screen as the T420s. That's why modkits exist that allow you to install IPS 1080p screens from later Thinkpads like the T440/450/460. See: https://www.forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=126294
