ah that's a pity. That utility basically forces the options to be not greyed out. I might still give it a go.

Very interesting project. Here are some possible panels that could be a solution:
BOE NE156QHM-N61 (60Hz, sRGB, 350.66(W)×216.14(H)×3.2(D) mm)
LG LP156QHG-SPP1 (120Hz sRGB, 350.66×206.1×4.6 (H×V×D) )
BOE NE156QHM-NY6 (120Hz sRGB, 350.66(W)×205.25(H) ×4.5(D) mm )
LG LP156QHG-SPV1 (240Hz, DCI-P3, 350.66(W)×216.25(H)×2.2(D), 400nit)
BOE NE156QHM-NX1 (240Hz, DCI-P3, 350.66(W)×216.24(H) ×2.2(D) mm, 400nit)

AUO B156HTN01.1 max. power consumption: 11W
BOE NE156QHM-N61 max. power consumption 4.75W

An out-of-the-box idea has just come to me:

Plug in a fully functional 14” 60hz QHD and just be left with massive bezels 14” A31-style.

Could run extra speakers up into the lid, or extra USB devices, a better camera(s)…

The result is basically a tricked out QHD T430 with better graphics, better cooling, and more RAM.

3D-print the extended bezels, I assume? Sounds like a neat project.

Don't need it. I replicated your config with the Innolux panel and it's running at 60hz without screen tearing. I am trying to modify a few things to see if I can push 120.

I'm not really sure what to think right now. Initially, I just dropped the Innolux panel in and it was all glitchy and was only reading display up to 1600x900, and it wasn't scaling the screen to fit full panel. However, a fresh install and I got a 2560x1440 with 60hz and full panel image. There was no screen tearing with videos store locally. I can watch 4k downloaded videos perfectly fine. I'm unsure what to ascribe your screen tearing to unless it was like a poor FFC connection, bad board, driver, or maybe even a subpar Innolux panel.

I bought a few extra boards just in case (for testing). All the boards come with SPB1 as EDID, same as yours. I did mod one board to a newer EDID (and its working) but it still only runs at 60hz. So that is stumping me a bit. I bought two more panels (of different models) to do a bit more testing. I might have extracted or rewrote an incomplete or wrong EDID. I need to figure that part out. However, 2560x1440 with no screen tearing is something I can live with. I don't need 120hz or 165hz. (Though, I'm certainly going to try).

Excellent progress. I am very pleased that you were able to produce another machine and that I am no longer the only one who has enjoyed a QHD 15.6" classic ThinkPad. The resolution is so premium, the IPS so perfect.... I'm still out of the modding game but am satisfied that the project has advanced to more capable hands. :)

after I cracked the QHD in my K2000M W530 I put the TN FHD back in and gave it to my sister as an upgrade for her retro-gamer T500 and companion for her Yoga 260.

the K1000M W530 I modded for my dad remains in daily-use with the QHD holding up to this day.

next week my P71, T430, and X330 are coming with me to college where they will save me the cost of buying a new PC for as long as possible, at which my point the purchase of a Lenovo-engineered ThinkPad will signify my days of modding ThinkPads are over.
