Is the board just a specially designed LVDS to eDP converter? Does it have to pretend to be a display to avoid modifying the BIOS, or is that not needed? I'm asking because I'm considering doing this myself, since it doesn't seem like there will be any availablity of units this year.

Yes, it is. It does pretend to be a display itself, but that's rather because of the power sequence. Doing yourself is quite a challenge.

What happens if the board doesn't pretend to be a display? Does the laptop not boot and show an error, or are you just not able to use the BIOS menu? The hardest part doing it yourself would be to get the right connector.

I don't know. In my case (I experimented with X220) pretending or not makes no difference. It's not only a connector, but the whole thing: firmware for microcontroller, PCB design and manufacturing, component sourcing (including eDP cable - that's another story), assembling and testing. And it never works right away - the first prototype is a guaranteed expense.

Here are all four versions' specs side-by-side: http://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.ph ... 8918,23640

1.1 and 1.2 are antiglare, 1.0 and 1.3 are glossy.
Sometimes panelook.com provides wrong specs, and this is the case.
Too bad. At least I can say for sure that 1.2 version is indeed antiglare, as I'm looking directly at it.

Due to the experience I had for the past two batches and the fustration of dealing with USPS and those fake screens on feebay, I don't think I will continue doing this. Forum admin please lock or delete this thread. If I changed my opinion or when the T420s 2K kits comes out, I will start another thread. Thanks

I was lucky enough to get one from the last batch and I just want to say thanks for all your effort!

Is there a chance you could provide any info on alternative source of kits for all those who are still waiting for a new batch?
