Thinkpad T510 , 4313-CTO Memory Upgrade
Thinkpad T510 , 4313-CTO Memory Upgrade
Hello All,
I planning to upgrade RAM on my T510, 4313-CTO.
I checked Crucial.com, did not get an exact match of the RAM specs I have but CRUCIAL says it is compatible
8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V.
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/thinkpad- ... /CT5311307
Is it OK to buy (compatible?) or should I check for anything else ?
I searched the forum and some one mentioned about checking Ranks ? What should I be checking ?
Thanks in advance

Yes, it will work. I usually buy used memory on eBay for the best prices.

Thank you very much

I installed the Crucial RAM, the updagrade went fine and PC recognizes the 8GB, but I feel that PC is slower after RAM upgrade. Is there anything else I need to do ?

I think you've overshot your goal!
The T510 only needs PC3-8500.
The PC3-10600 will also work fine in there, even though it slows down to 8500 speed.
PC3-12800 is too much.
Another problem is the number of chips on those Crucial modules: 4 chips on each side!
You really should look for 2Rx8 modules, translated: they have 2 Ranks of 8 chips each, i.e. 8 chips on each side.
If I were you, I'd return them and buy others cheap(er) on eBay, such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171887682901

PC3-10600 is also fine, but all 2Rx8 (16 chips, 1.5V) is required in T410 T510. Also 2Rx8 (16 chips) and 1Rx8 (8 chips) all 1.5V works in T420/T520. The 1.35V is ideally should not be used for these. Later notebooks like 3rd gen i core can support 1.35V and 8 chips.

These are 2R*8 chips, I have asked Crucial before buying and checked them before installing too.
Voltage is 1.35 though
