T420s/T430s WQHD kits pre-order

Dear all,

I have opened a thread a few months back regarding the T420s/T430s WQHD kits. I wasn't really thinking of proceeding with this due to work, my personal issues and the thinkpad retro. However the Thinkpad 25 turned out to be such a expensive and pathetic piece of cluster f***. Hence, after discussing with Javi yesterday, we are almost certain that a batch of 200 WQHD kits will be supplied to the market. Yes, I'm taking a risk, those WQHD kits cost quite a bit more than the FHD kits. It might take me 2-3 years to sell all the kits but who cares!

It will be similar to the FHD kits, no soldering is needed, and you are responsible to find the authentic screens.

Though it will be a bit more expensive (price is $60) than originally intended and it will consume a bit more power than the FHD kits, it's a better and more worthy way for the 25th anniversary of our beloved thinkpads
than a rebranded crappy T460 for $1999.

I'm just finalizing things with Javi-Jie. And I will post the paypal link this weekend or next, you will be covered by paypal for 6 months. Hoping that it can roll out before christmas as a perfect gift.

If you don't trust paypal and prefer to be ripped off by feebay, I will post the listing a bit later as things are extremely complicated and annoying there.

Your previous FHD Mod works amazing! If we could find screens at least as good as the AU Optronics B140HAN01.2 that I have! For the WQHD Methinks that B140QAN01.5 is not far off, is it? It was the one seen in the T470s, seemingly without PWM, and 94% sRGB gamut. Almost as good as the *HAN in terms of RGB. It just in a bit of a shortage now. Are there any specifics we should take into account when checking compatibility, otherwise?
Would there be a better choice? Like the OLED of X1 yoga ? Do we dare that? That one also seems in shortage, but pulling it off would be fitting!

But, coming back to the main question, I'm in for two kits, too.

Now a question for you fellow thinkpadders that previously purchased the FHD mod kit from RMSMajestic....if you are upgrading to the WQHD kit - what are you doing with the FHD mod kit and screen?

So I have a T430s i5 in amazing condition as well as a T420s i7 in amazing condition - thinking of upgrading both to the WQHD kits and I guess reselling the FHD mod kits and screens?

Because the FHD mod kit and awesome working screens do cost a bit of $$ too....not sure what to do....

And the thing is....my AUOptronics screens are in excellent condition - no blemishes etc...

It does, but I think 6 bit 2K is the upper limit for dual channel LVDS

slim kits and non-s machines are not compatible. But newer batch of chips seems to work okay in non-s machines. Javi will work on it after sold this batch of WQHD slim kits

yes, due to the size a smaller chip has to be used on T420 non-s and that chip doesn't have very good compatibility and will flicker on a lot of T420/T430. currently the newer revision of the chip has better compatibility however money, risk and time are the problems. So it's coming after the WQHDs

Sounds promising, I understand the financial risk, but on the other hand I think this mod was also quite requested here and in the German sister forum. So it may turn out to be very successful too
