sim card connection

did this laptop have a sim card connection to connect to a mobile ISP ?.
Whwre would the card for this be on the motherboard. I saw the wifi card ,+ modem card next to it.
there is wire dangling just below the wifi card with a black tap over the end, why?>

Got the hardware manual and my queries got answered. I never had a WAN card.
So I can get a usb 3.0 in that never used cavity with door at left bottom. Which specs will fit there.I see some with size 34 and others with 54.size refers to width ?. .two slots ?? are both pci express??

If your T400 did not come with WWAN (mobile broadband) prefigured out of the factory, it would be missing the WWAN antennae wrapped around the top of your LCD panel.
Unfortunately you cannot add this later.

Therefore even if you add in the corrected (white-listed) WWAN card, you would still be missing the WWAN antennae.
No WWAN antennae = no signal.

It's not the news that you wish to hear unfortunately...

On the other hand, with the prevalence of WiFi hotspot devices nowadays, there is a lesser need for WWAN built into your computer.

We have used this one, and it's quite useful, and it can also supply WiFi to your family and friends around you too!

Currently I am using my (NOT dumb) /smart mobile as a hot spot. Peak speed is < 7 mbps .vodafone ..

WWAN (mobile broadband) built-in into your ThinkPad is still the most elegant solution.
If you *must* have rock solid and reliable access to the internet, built-in WWAN is the way.
(This is from someone who has been using WWAN on T42/T410/X1C3/X1C4).

The 99% Solution (aka good enough for most)
I've been trying out smartphone hotspot, and the above mentioned WiFi hotspot device, and in general these two methods are OK.
But there were a few glaring times when the smartphone and/or WiFi hotspot device "suddenly" did not work with my ThinkPad.
Even rebooting both devices did not help(!!).
Fortunately it was not an "urgent" task back then, otherwise trouble!

The 100% Solution (aka for those who always save up for the rainy day)
Hence our comment, if you really want 100% bulletproof & reliable internet access, then may we suggest
WWAN (mobile broadband) built-in into your ThinkPad is still the most elegant solution!
This is why we stick with ThinkPad models by the way.

Here ,in India, both services are on par and same across all service providers!?.
I am waiting for fibre optic services to be available in my part of mumbai.
My T400 did NOT have the WWAN when it was purchased for me

Can anyone tell me please how to check if my T490s has WWAN capability. It has the slot on the MB and there are two wires to connect to the card. I understand it needs a built in aerial but how would I know if it has that?

If those are orange and blue, they are the WWAN antenna wires.
