T520 - Screen glitch help?

#1 Post by warmetropcs » Sun Nov 28, 2021 3:56 pm

I recently bought a T520 and upgraded the SSD and RAM straight away.

RAM: Crucial 8GB LAPTOP DDR3 1600Mhz SODIMM 1.35V/1.5V 204pin Non ECC PC3-12800
SSD: Crucial BX500 480GB 2.5 inch SSD SATA 6.0GB/s

I've experienced this issue twice now (both while using YouTube, however, I have used YouTube fine throughout the day). The screen turns to this, and there is the loud sound of white noise coming through the speakers, along with robotic glitching.

Current OS: Kali LinuxCurrent CPU: Intel Core i5 2450CM

It may be helpful to note that the current battery only works while plugged in; the % stays 0. I will replace the battery next.

Any help?

Edit: just happened again, this time while only having full-screen Twitch open.

If it takes a while for this problem to show up, then you might be looking at overheating CPU and/or discrete graphics. You should also try other RAM
I clearly remember a crappy Lenovo Erazer laptop having this behaviour plus being very slow before the graphics completely gave up the ghost (That's actually because Lenovo quality meant one of the two GPU heatsink standoff broke off!).
