Hi, I have a LenovoT420....had, until a few nights ago... I had a USB device plugged in that has likely shoved 12v from a vehicle back into the USB port in some manner ( I couldn't even confirm which pins this may have happened, but it was a USB-CAN adaptor, but we plugged it in to the wrong place on the device itself, which was still attached to the car )
As soon as this happened the laptop totally died.
Even the charge indicator for the battery when the power lead is plugged in does nothing. It's as dead as a Parrot.
Other USB devices I had plugged in like a memory stick and the SSD hard drive appear to be ok when plugged into other machines.
Anyone any thoughts as to what may have went pop ? And is it likely to be salvageable ? Could there be any sort of internal fuses ? I cannot see any on any images of the motherboard have seen
I've had battery unplugged for some time, and even that makes zero difference. I have not taken it apart yet to investigate yet though
Thanks in advance.

Re: T420 blown up
Welcome to the Forum.
Not a nice way to die for a motherboard, but in your case I would look for another mobo.
On eBay: https://www.ebay.ie/itm/284733097923
It's a 63Y1967, which is the same as 04W2045 (integrated GPU).
Hopefully all other parts can be transferred, but check them out if possible.
Get the manual from the HMM link above.

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Re: T420 blown up
Thanks.
I was kind of guessing the MB will be dead. It would be nice if I could find out exactly what did die though. But didn't see any simple options like a fuse etc on any MB images I found online. I've taken some parts of it apart before, but not to the extent of removing the MB.
In the meantime I have ordered just another full T420 albeit with a i7 processor. Hopefully I can just use my HDD and this will make a relatively smooth transfer as long as Windows doesn't start crying ( replacement has W10Po anyway...so hopefully if I switch to that key Windows will be happy as my own HDD is W10pro too. )
I figured if I need to change MB....then it won't be happy with my old license key anyway, so a replacement unit is easiest and quickest and I should have a good few spare parts with my old unit
If this replacement gets me up and running again, I'll investigate further and either remove the MB myself or maybe leave it in to someone to see what they think.
