T430-2 pipe heat sinc?? 2 pipes from the CPU?

#1 Post by mraroid » Mon Dec 12, 2022 4:25 pm

Hello friends....

I read that a heat sync for a T430 (and maybe more) was made that had two pipes in it. One normally goes to the CPU, and the second one normally goes over a GPU. But, this one was made for no GPU. And it had two copper pipes going from the CPU.

Was this a home made unit? Or has anyone seen this? Perhaps someone made it out of two heat sync fans? Maybe they have a web page showing how to make one?

I am installing a very fast CPU in my T430 and so I am looking for the best way to remove heat.

Many thinks,

Have you seen such a unit that you could share a picture of?

Some T420 had a 2 CPU pipe heatsink, possibly that could be crammed in a T430. I've done the opposite but it wasn't a direct fit. And I found it performs no better than the 1 pipe.

Some people try to connect the dgpu and cpu heatpipes but I've also tried this and found it ineffective.

Hello....

Sadly, I have lost the link that talks about this. But I will keep looking and if I find more information on it, I will post it. I have bought a 2 pipe heat sync that is a drop in replacement for the single pipe heat sync for my T 430 (which has not GPU). I read someplace that this may be slightly better at removing heat than the one pipe heat sync.

I ended up buying this heat sync:

At first, I was going to buy the "Delta" version of a 2 pipe heat sync. But after more reading, I saw that the "Delta" version was more quiet, but the trade off is that it did not remove as much heat as the unit above.

I will keep looking for what I read a while back.

Thank you for your post,

Hello....

One more thing on heat in the T430.... I found this article very useful. It is now slightly dated and it appears to not have been kept up to date. But many basic issues about heat, and other T430 issues are discussed. A good read IMHO:

Best of luck. My latest T430 acquisition has that fan and it's very noisy. I used some generic white thermal paste on a surplus i5 2520m and it's hotter than I'd like, about the same as my T420. The 3rd Gen processors are inherently cooler running. In my experience T410 and a T420 both are hotheads even with original dual cores, but T430 with a 3rd Gen is cooler.

You could try a 35w quad but it's best to stick with dual cores in the 14" series if heat is of concern.
