T510 BIOS emulator?

#1 Post by thinkquan » Thu Dec 15, 2022 5:03 pm

I've got a T510 with display that does not work. Outputting to external monitor via VGA or Display Port also results in no image. The backlight seems to be working, and it does change brightness with Fn + PgUp and Fn + PgDn, just a black screen. Checked the screen with a flashlight for any sign of a faint image, nothing. Disassembled the machine and checked that all cables were firmly plugged in.

The display isn't the main concern, as I would like to use this machine as a headless server. I have successfully installed Debian using another Thinkpad, transferred the drive to the T510, and can now SSH into it.

The issue is that I would like to change some settings in the BIOS - mainly turning on Wake on LAN, as well as the virtualisation options. Unfortunately, I don't have another T*10 series to compare. However, I do have a T400 which I have attempted to mirror key presses to navigate the BIOS. It seemed to work up until the point to press F10 to save an exit, at that point it just beeps when pressing a key. Naturally, without a display output I am not completely sure the key presses actually corresponded to the intended settings.

I've searched around for a T*10 BIOS emulator, but can only find one for newer models.

Any suggestions?

Thanks. Will work on it in the next few days when I get some time.
