Discrete and integrated graphics switching for alternate OS

#1 Post by JaLooNz » Thu Jul 31, 2008 10:48 pm

Hi,

Anyone knows how does the integrated / discrete graphics switches? Is it a automated process or is a reboot required?

And in addition, anyone knows if that will work for other OSes?
More specifically, I am looking at XP, Vista x64 and Linux..

As far as I know... switching graphics will not require a reboot and you can do it on the fly. As for the OS, I believe they said it requires Vista to manage it.

I wonder if there's going to be a BIOS option for this (Integrated, Discrete, Dynamic).

Someone will most likely write a driver for it to work on Linux once its released.

I made a similar post in the Linux Questions section of the forum. The reply I got was that it was probably going to be quite difficult to implement on Linux. I hope that's not the case. The X4500 is already supported in the open source Intel driver and the fact that ATI have switched to a better open source strategy means we'll see support for the ATI Mobility HD 3470 and then hopefully smooth switchable graphics.

At present one must apparently manually switch it in the Power Manager settings.
