T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
For the last week I have problem with ThinkVantage System Update (v4.00.00046). When TVSU tries to get the list of new packages, I get message box "An error occured while downloading packages" (progress bar stops at about 18%).
In the event viewer I can see multiple errors with event id 36871 (source: Schannel, internal error 10013).
I have reinstalled System Update downloaded from Lenovo web site, but it doesn't work either.
System: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1, x64
Regards,

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Hi there
Seems noone else wants to give you some tips/hints
Not sure Which Model latop you have.....
Sys Update look at BIOS info ( validates its LENOVO model and Serial number etc)
often when you Install Win Ent via SLIC = its overwrites some DATA relating to MODEL and SERIAL etc etc -These info is than shows up in your 'events' as still reading MODEL etc etc ,,, and tvsu fails.
I suspect your MODEL-xxx + Serial Number does NOT MATCH any Lenovo Config from this page here......Download and Drivers
((I am not at libity to discuss how to bypass that model check etc sorry forum rules))
So in short do what I often do = apply Updates Manually, for me tis the best way!!
Also this way I dont get to install items that I would consider 'junk' and or systme Hogs
Hope this helps
Cheers

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Thank you for your answer.
I don't think that my model is an issue. System update worked with my Windows 7 Enterprise for over one year, even after SP1. But can't tell if it had worked after IE9.
My model of T410 is 2518-EYG.

Mine said there is a system update update. It updated itself and now it says "there are no packages available for your system". I think there are sometimes problems with the update on Lenovo's end.
I'M DONE WITH THINKPADS, JUST DONE!!!

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Hi guys;
Apart from Sys Update Server 'avalibility" issues , the IE9 has nothing to do with Tvt appsam not a fan of ANY ThinkVantage apps - apart form system update) which I use regualrly for my TP) Over the years I have had worked on lots( we buy 1200+ Tps a year)
and System Update is ONLY thing we keep - we remove ALL OTHERS including AConn etc
We run Win7 Ent on W=T series and Win Prof on Edge (all with X6 OS) and most all of them come /or are added Gobi cards for WWAN....
WE use System Update to install ALL LENOVO DRIVERS (rest of drivers we let WIndows update take care off).... and in short I have 'pulled apart' the Sys Update - jsut to se what causes some of the issues AND how we can use it to our advantage!!
So few tips:
1) look at System Update Requirements - devil is in the details
2) Run latest version ( win7 =4.0) - do FREESH INSTALL
3) Ignore any UPDATES ( after initial installsof Sys Update
4) Enterprise has few DOT NET + SLIC - things that interfere with Sys Update
((am very limited in answers as forum ruls + PLUS copyright issues )
Hope it helps everyone
Cheers
Mike

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Exact same situation with X200s running Windows XP, after System Update 3.14 auto-updated itself to 3.15 on May 10. Now it gives the same message you received, i.e., "There are no packages available for your system."sir_synthsalot wrote:Mine said there is a system update update. There is something wrong on Lenovo's end. Let's hope that they discover/fix the issue relatively soon ...

I know THIS MIGHT sound like a 'broken record'.....our X2xx series machine has SAME ISSUE with XO Enterprise x64 ALSO !..((devil is in the DETIALS !!!)
however now its working - after review of above steps !
(((however laterly -there has been a BIG RUSH from Lenovo/IBM to update their Server that is used for SYSTEM UPDATE- so its often OUT_OF_SERVICE during these updates)))
more details :
XP PRO: - make sure your DOT NET is fully 'updated' including MS latest patches
- Than > UN-INSTALL System Update - reboot and do fresh install
Win7 Ent X64 = nearly as same as above
(we use dot.net re-distributable packages - which often means lots more 'update patches' to install afterwards - however we ONLY USE X64 bit Windows; OSX & SuSe WkStn Linux - yes triple boot on all our W/ T / X series machiens and Edge = dual boot only but still X64)
Hope this help
edit(yips I spent many a days AND nights figuring out this problem as Lenovo tech Support sucks foir any TvT stuff - sorry no offense intended)

Sure does! Thank you. ReInstalling System Update did not cure the problem ... however, UnInstalling, and then ReInstalling it made System Update work once again.ausmike wrote:... Hope this help
Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
...but not in my case.
What I have done:
1. unistall System Update
2. remove folder from Program Files(x86)
3. reboot system
4. install System Update
5. reboot system
6. still the same error
I have also tried to use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall System Update with all remaining folders and registry entries, but with the same result.
Probably I should wait until new 4.01 version will be available to download. And I shoud hope it will resolve my problem.

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Hello everyone & Wo*;
Sorry for your issues ((SEEMS I am the LOCAL EXPERT on Sys Update) lololol
Ok not sure if you running XP Pro or Win7 ?
So here are some more detials ::
(these steps are sure to work for X64 on both above)
1)make sure you have latest T /W Series BIOS ( very important)
2) ensure "ALL Intel Drivers" = updated FROM LENOVO WEBSITE (I do NOT recommend use these from intel direct- as IBM - repeat IBM software pple have made some specific changes for Thinkpads eg sata storae managment drivers are very specific for TPs)
3) REINSTALL Microsoft .NETFRAMWORKfrom here for win7 (note XP = different distro)
4) step 3 above = critical for use of System Update ( and Lenovo make a terrible job of documenting this point)
5) update all WINDOWS UPDATES relating to ".NET"
6) Un- install System update , remove all traces from registry etc ( like you did)
7) reboot , and do shut down ( dont install system update here yet
make sure Power manager , ACCESS connection and other THINKVantage apps are THE LATEST VERSION - if any in use (( I dont use anything else apart from system update and Pwoer manager +Hotkey))
9) Install system Update (version downloaded from here)
10) reboot , and ensure THE FIRST TIME system Update asks for BIOS INFO = correct and CHECK MARK - "do not show again" box
And YOU SET to go !!!
ps sorry for typos & grammer - i hate typin & my speach@txt is out of sync!

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
I'm glad I found this thread. System Update has been giving me the "no applicable updates" message for a few weeks now, curiously both before and after it self-updated to v. 4.01. In the last few days I've been manually installing updates, including Intel Chipset drivers and the BIOS, both of which are up-to-date now.
I haven't yet done the fresh reinstall of .NET Framework or SU. Have we confirmed that the problem is a software issue on the local machines, or is Lenovo screwing the pooch from their servers' end?
Thanks!

I had precisely the problem you describe after the System Update self-update, and the problem turned out to be (a) -- see my posting above.Tim M wrote:... Have we confirmed that the problem is (a) a software issue on the local machines, or (b) is Lenovo screwing the pooch from their servers' end?
[Nonetheless, we cannot eliminate (b) with epistemological certitude, since the most basic regression testing by Lenovo, especially in the face of a forced auto-update, would prevent this sort of thing! ... so, it's not "just" the local machine, no matter how one slices it ...]

Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
^ Interesting. I am beginning to suspect that the deployment of the System Update self-update is at fault (b), creating the situation (a) that requires .NET and SU re-installation.

Uninstall System Update then download/install the latest.
Re: T410 System Update problem - "An error occured while down...
Did that and although SU is working now, it is glacially slow to load. I'm getting the splash screen for much longer than I was before.redhook wrote:Uninstall System Update then download/install the latest.
Oh, well. Two steps forward, one step backward.
EDIT: The working version I have is 4.00.0046, and not the 4.01.xxxx that was causing me trouble before. There must be a fault with that version, which I now no longer find on the Lenovo website. Perhaps it was pulled?

Yips and........weeks ago...Uninstall System Update......
Must be a fault with that version, which I now no longer find on the Lenovo website. Perhaps it was pulled?
the WEIRD part is/WAS that the Lenovo Tech Support guy (level II) didnt even BELEIVE that there was 'oops" in the code - untill I sent him the 'deBug log file" .......
LOW sppeds of Update Process might be due to "overworked Lenovo Update-Server"

At last I have identified the source of problem with System Update:
It fails when I enable Group Policy for local computer:
Computer > Windows Settings > Security settings > Local policies > Security options > System cryptography: use FIPS compliant algorithms...
Thanks for all suggesitions.
