SL series WWAN options discussion - BIOS hack available yet?

#1 Post by Random Dude » Wed Mar 18, 2009 9:17 am

Hi all,

Just picked up my 13.1" SL300 with WWAN antennas but I didn't option a module from the factory.

Down here in Australia we've got 2 frequency options for HSDPA - 2100MHz and 850MHz.
I'll be using the Telstra network which is currently 21mbps HSDPA and 5.8mbps HSUPA.

Now I understand that the SL300 only supports (via the BIOS whitelist) a Qualcomm module, Ericsson F3507G and the Sierra Wireless MC8775. I havn't fitted my MC8780 module yet, but I suspect I will see the infamous 1802 or 1804 BIOS error when I insert it.

Has anyone had any luck with bypassing this check on the SL300/400/500? They all share the same BIOS. I understand Zender on this forum has been working on hacks for other models. Is anyone aware of him having a crack at the SL BIOS?

Wow!- quite an impressive speed for a mobile network - I can now see why Sierra Wireless has produced the MC8700 WWAN module.

I do hope the great Zender can help with a solution in the near future.

It's really not fair that we're subjected to this white list, considering the speed at which HSDPA is ramping up, meaning new cards every year or so.

My faith is in Zender's hands at this stage. I've sent him a PM

HELLO RANDOM DUDE
I also have the SL300 and am wanting to fit the Sierra MC8700
Did you have success with Zender ?
Did you have success with this card ?
If you did, are you willing to tell me where I can get modded bios please
All I can find is file share sites that want money for one download for "Zender Bios"

Cheers
