Dead W701DS

Much against my better judgement, I purchased an 'untested' W701DS from an eBay seller, for just over $800 USD (yeah, I know...but they're super-rare and I had been trying to find one for years). The seller probably genuinely didn't know whether it worked or not as they didn't have the PSU for it. So then I had a hell of a time finding the correct PSU for it. The W700/701s use specific PSUs with a different type of barrel socket to most Thinkpads, which are darn hard to find. Eventually, I found one from an Australian seller on eBay, which cost me over $100 USD.

Much to my dismay, the machine won't power on or show any signs of life whatsoever. I took it to my local PC repair place and they opened it up and did some diagnostic checks (including checking the PSU, reseating the CPU, checking the power input socket etc) and concluded that it must be the mainboard (or something else which is beyond their capability of repairing) that's dead.

So, I'm stuck with a very expensive paperweight. Does anybody have any suggestions on anything that I could try to bring it back to life? It would be such a shame to just get rid of it. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated!

Uhh, start hunting ebay for W701ds system boards? Or one with a broken screen?

I've had a search result alert set up on ebay for 'W701DS' for ages, but nothing besides batteries and the occasional PSU comes up
