W700 Will Not Power Off

#1 Post by RMForlenza » Fri Oct 31, 2008 7:31 pm

Got a brand new W700 and started installing my software.

Attempted to install my usb fingerprint reader while the unit was in the dock, YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT! It messed all kinds of thinks up and wouldn't function. Attempting to recover was a nightmare.

I've got most everything back, except for fingerprint reader software and client security solution. However, the unit will not power off after windows shuts down. Hard drive continues to move intermittently and the indicator lights suggest that the unit is on, although it appears off. I only caught it because the unit wouldn't power on. Right now I have to shut windows down, then hold the power button for three seconds to shut the unit off.

I would think that it has to be a driver or software issue, but I can't figure it out. If anyone has experienced something like this, please pass the information on.

My wife's new W700 is shutting down fine. It's running Vista64.

What operating system are you using?

Try booting up in safe mode, then shutting down, and then rebooting. Do it all off of the port replicator.

I recently had that procedure fix a failure to shut down on an R50p. Then when I put it back on the port replicator, it worked fine.
