I like the idea. How come they didnt integrate it into the trackpad? Imagine what they are going to do with left palm rest space? Is it better than a tablet?

The "digitizer" is just a little resized wacom bamboo tablet with 512 levels of pressure sensitivity but no tilt recognition. I'll give it a try since my W700 is coming on Monday and I use the wacom instead the mouse for work. The one at work is an Intuos so I'm sure I'll find a difference both in space and sensitivity.
Again, next week I'll post with some test.

How would you like me to test it? I've only used it in Windows Explorer where the pad represents a full screen and it is easy to mouse around and select.
Usually I do use the Ultranav pad.

one test is for taking notes or journal entries. Does it work with onenote?
second test making corrections on documents. that is all i can think of . I open it too others if they have questions about it.

Re: How do rate the digitzer?
I asked this awhile back in anther thread. It seems redundant to have both pads, when the WACOM could conceivably double as a touchpad with the right software.fr0zenmon wrote:I like the idea. One other thing...with the size of the pad, couldn't there be a Ultrabay option version of this for other T series like a slide-out PDA cradle or numeric keypad?

fr0zenmon, sorry but I didn't try the tablet for taking notes. I did some Photoshop tests and it's pretty good! Almost as good as my Intuos 2 12X9, just smaller ^_^ I can on a single stroke, have different line sizes and the tablet is pretty responsive. I'm sure it's also great for taking notes.
There's just a couple of "problems". When moving the pen all the way to the left side of the tablet, the pen's arrow on the monitor doesn't reach the screen's edge. Only if I move the pen just a little bit outside the tablet (making the clicking impossible because the surface is no longer sensitive). The opposite happens on the right side. The arrow's cursor reaches the edge of the screen just a little before I get to the right side of the tablet. It's like if the mapping of the tablet was a little off. Not to bad though and this doesn't affect in any way while I'm working.
What bothers me is the pen included with the W700. Is like the cheap headphones you get when you buy an MP3 player! The pen feels like a toy and has only one side button making it impossible to work with Maya for example. I got a word from a developer at Wacom and he suggested me to install a tablet PC driver and buy a 2 side button Tablet PC pen... Why Lenovo doesn't include a better pen with the W700? Isn't this machine supposed to be targeted to pro artists? Still, the tablet is as good as my Intuos 2 12X9. If we could only get a 2 side button pen to work on the W700!!

you make great points. 3D_GuRu thanks for the overview. Sounds like an alignment issue. Radioguy great minds think alike. This convo is got me thinking. I am going to create a thread named " reccomendations for next model" where we put our two cents about what can be approved on this model. What do you think. It would be neat if we can use our keen insight to make recs.

After getting some help from QFoam, reading many posts at http://www.tabletpcreview.com/ and confirming all the learned info with a Wacom developer I purchased a Cintiq 18SX pen (with 2 side buttons) from Amazon and tried it last night...
It works beautifully and the difference is huge compared to the pen that the W700 comes with!!
But... the 2 buttons are still not working. Right now I'm under Vista 64bit just for testing purposes. When using the preinstalled XP Pro 32bit, the one button from the bulked pen worked fine. Now, I can't even make one button work unless I turn on the setting from the "Pen and Input devices" Control Panel, "Pen Options" tab but not always works and I always see a circle following my arrow (and yes I also uncheck those circles under "Pointer Options"). The Wacom properties window only shows one button to be configured and when changed to "right click" function, this doesn't make it work either.
I have tried several drivers (always uninstalling the previous ones and rebooting every single time), from the Lenovo's site "Wacom Digitizer Driver for Windows Vista and XP_5.0.8-8.exe" as well as several Tablet PC drivers from the Wacom site (when doing so and trying to change the settings of the pen, a window will come up warning me that there was not a hardware compatible installed) and nothing let me get the 2 button configuration option.
I just hope Wacom will release a new driver allowing W700 users to use a 2 button pen... or am I doing something wrong?
I'll try under XP 64bit tonight again...
