Not just flexy keyboard! The whole laptop is falling APART!!
I know it's new year's eve but hopefully someone can help. I just received my W500 today and I am shocked. My T42 is a solid machine while this unit is falling apart.
I was aware of the keyboard issues but my whole palmrest is falling apart as I type. The point at which it connects to the rest of the laptop just unclicks and falls apart uncovering the RAM memory and the internal unit - not to mention it is flexy like a gello.
What's going on ?
Is Lenovo replacing keyboards and the palmrests too?
This is unbelievable to pay $2000 and get this in return. Did someone have similar experience? Please help.

Don't know if this applies to the W500 but I saw threads with the T400 and swapping with the T60/61 series keyboards. I was checking on my RAM this afternoon and saw that I have the "swiss cheese" keyboard. I will find a T61 NMB in the future and swap keyboards. I don't know how your keyboard chassis could just fall off?!!
Isn't the palmboard secured by screws from underneath the unit?

No. It's not secured by screws. It has 4 latches that click as you slide them. But once you press harder on one point they just unlock. Ridiculous.

That's unbelievable. Did you check the bottom for empty screwholes?
Yep, it's supposed to have four screws: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 71313.html

Re: Not just flexy keyboard! The whole laptop is falling APART!!
I am using a 5 year old T43p. My son recently got a T400. I cannot believe the difference. The T400 looks and feels like a cheap imitation. I have experience with other recent models by HP, etc., and I have never seen such low build quality.lecterielin wrote:I know it's new year's eve but hopefully someone can help. I'm still using a T43p too (one of the last models while IBM was still at the helm) and the build quality seems much better than the T400 I ordered for my mother. That said, the T400 still felt solid, just not as high-end.
I just ordered the W510 and hope that the build quality is better than the T400 and at least somewhat close to the T43p.
