A22 keeps making me reset the date, but CMOS battery is new.

#1 Post by tselling » Wed Jan 27, 2010 12:04 pm

I have an A22 that will not keep the date, every time I unplug and turn it off it loses the date and I get the bios prompt to set it. I have changed the little CMOS battery for a new one but same problem. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Look for corrosion around the spot where the CMOS battery plugs in. That was culprit in a couple of ThinkPads that I've seen with this issue.

Good luck.

How did you fix any corrosion? Corrosion seems likely since I had trouble pulling the last battery connector off. I don't specifically see corrosion but I haven't taken the laptop apart.

Most corrosion can be taken care of with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol. However, given your description of having some problem with removing the previous battery connector, I'd go with a detached lead of the battery connector to the motherboard. That might be solved with a little re-soldering touch up, or a new connector if it's damaged too much.
