How to backup hidden protected area from R40

#1 Post by richthofen » Sun Aug 22, 2021 10:31 pm

Luckily one of my R40 still has the HPA on it and I want to preserve it in case the HDD dies but I don't know how. I had found a tool called Fiesta on Sourceforge that seems to run on Linux but when I tried it on Ubuntu nothing happened.

Is there an alternative for Windows or some sort of How to use Fiesta for Dummies type of guide?

Find an older version (2009 edition would be fine) of Acronis True Image or it's free / shareware equivalent. It can backup the entire HDD which could be restored to another HDD in any similar family ThinkPad (R40, R41, G40, etc) ThinkPad. I use it on T30 series, T40 series and T60 series.
