r601 WITH t9300 RUNNING HIT

#1 Post by Phil83 » Sun Jul 28, 2024 1:31 am

which is the best fan assembly for a R601 ?
I'm using the original R60 fan assembly but it runs quite hot with T9300 Temp between 70 and 80 °C with TPfan control running and super high speed setting over 70°C. T9300 voltage is 0.95V minimum available with throttlestop.

best regards
Filippo

Page 201 of the maintenance manual lists the part numbers for heatsinks.
https://thinkpads.com/support/hmm/hmm_p ... 749_02.pdf

I was told the Furukawa is the best.

For models with ATI:
Toshiba 41W5269
CCI 41W5270
Furukawa 41W5271

For models without ATI:
Furukawa 41W5268
CCI 41W515

I happen to own a real 15" R61i and its included heatsink is not one of the above. I disassembled it and found it has a 42x4913 which Parts lookup says is a CCI with substitutes including another CCI 42X4375 and Toshiba 42X4374.

I personally installed a T9500 2.6 Ghz in that R61i and I thought the cooling was phenomenal, with temps not exceeding 70C. See my post about it here: viewtopic.php?p=872090&sid=a9c8a3471e65 ... db#p872090

Just now I powered on the computer and ran Prime95 for a minute in Windows 10, the temps stayed below 70C.

So from anecdote I say the CCI 42x4913 is a very good heatsink.

R61 4:3 stock fan unit is your best choice.

Mine is running with P9600 with temperature peaks under 65C while loaded with Orthos.
Too many thinkpads not enough time!
